A number reports have recently surfaced relating to various smartphone manufacturers working on screens measuring 5 inches in size and capable of displaying a 1080P resolution. 2013 was supposed to be the year when we would see these handsets introduced but HTC have jumped the gun and released the HTC Butterfly in their homeland of Taiwan.

The decision from HTC to launch the new HTC Butterfly handset came as a surprise as we were not expecting to see the model launched until Q1 2013. The early release of this model may well win the company valuable sales as there is very little on the market at this moment in time to match this model in terms of screen technology. The new handset was only released this week in Taiwan and already HTC are experiencing serious stock shortages thanks to high demand. The model is available in the US under the guise of the Droid DNA and the Japanese Butterfly J version is also proving a big success. The success of the Japanese model is why HTC opted to release this model so soon in Taiwan and the company have reported that they expect to ship a large number of these devices before the year is out. As yet there is no news on a UK release for this phone but given the success it has enjoyed in other markets this can only be a short while away. For more HTC Butterfly News please click here

HTC have released a number of exciting smartphones in recent weeks in an attempt to make their range more appealing to a market currently dominated by Samsung and Apple. In addition to these great new phones the company have also undertaken a new marketing strategy that sees two new changes. The first of these is that there will be less flagship model reboots like the HTC One X+. This will effectively leave the premium devices on the market for longer enabling them to gain a larger share of the market. The second part of this new strategy is to increase the range of phones available at the budget to mid range of the market. It is hoped that this increased selection will appeal to a younger audience and also consumers looking to make their first smartphone purchase after stepping up from a feature phone. The success of the new HTC Butterfly in Taiwan may mean that European consumers may be treated to the release of this model earlier than expected. In the early part of 2013 the handset will challenge the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for the crown of ultimate phablet handset.
